Must Eat Here: Rustic Mornings by Isabelo

Images of shoes used to pop up in my mind upon hearing Marikina. But now, I connect the city to food. It is slowly becoming recognized as a destination for people who want to go on a food trip (I even found this directory on the internet), and I, for one, have enjoyed one great Saturday afternoon in a garden restaurant in the city called Rustic Mornings by Isabelo.

Rustic Mornings by Isabelo is a family-run garden restaurant owned by the Dee family of Marikina. They offer good food in a great setting – trees and plants and flowers all over the place, stylized dining area with items from the Dees’ collection, ornaments hung on walls – it was like dining in the comforts of your own garden, really.

It was such a lovely place that I instantly had high expectations of their menu. And I wasn’t disappointed, not at all. My brothers were definitely satisfied, too. We ate to our hearts’ content after the waitstaff served each dish – fragrant, fresh, and unbelievably homey.

Their Country Omelette (Php185) is to die for. Potato, bacon, leeks, cheese and ciabatta bread on one plate, yummy!

Cheesy Chicken Fricasse (Php300) is another must try entree on their menu.

Creamy Tomato Curry Kofta Balls (Php300) is my favorite among all of the dishes we sampled. I love Kofta Balls (meatballs), and this one gets two thumbs up for its creamy and tasty sauce.

We ate the chicken and Kofta Balls with bowls of Garlic Rice (Php50), which looked appetizing on its own!

I was intrigued by this Pinoy Burrito (Php175) so we ordered one in smoked fish flavor. Man it did taste like smoked fish, and it was big that even if there were four of us, we didn’t get to finish it.

The only thing that we might not order again from their menu is their Chocolate Chip Frappuccino (Php135). We kind of felt that it was lacking in something, prolly another dash of that chocolate flavoring.

But these fruit shakes, you should give a try! Pearl of the Orient (Php130) and Tropical Teaser (Php140) are concoctions of different pulpy fruits.

I didn’t get to explore the other parts of the restaurant (which I am sure are also Instagram-worthy) because there were other diners walking-in, tables were vacated but filled out pretty fast. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience that I enjoyed with my brothers Louie and Kevin and Louie’s girlfriend Kat, and we stepped out of Rustic Mornings with smiles on our faces.
