I made a tough decision today – I chose to defy gravity.
I gave up seeing and hearing Matchbox 20 and OneRepublic live and picked this instead:
Yes, it’s almost five months away, but I cannot contain my excitement! I am going to see the Broadway musical Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz! It’s like an advanced birthday gift to myself (but my birthday is more than a month away *teehee*).
Wicked is a Grammy award-winning Broadway musical based on the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire. Yes, it’s related to the Wizard of Oz that you might be more familiar with, as it is a retelling of the classic children’s novel and highlights the untold stories of the characters in Oz. It focuses on the events in the life of Elphaba and how she was eventually labeled as the Wicked Witch of the West, and her unlikely friend Glinda the good witch. The musical is already on its 10th year, and everyone has been looking forward to it being performed in the Philippines. I know of some people who have seen it in Singapore, and they have nothing but positive reviews about the musical. Over 37 million people have watched Wicked, and I cannot wait for February 9 to see Jemma Rix (Elphaba), Suzie Mathers (Glinda), and Steve Danielsen (Fiyero) on stage!
At around this time last year, my dear friend Maggie and I were in CCP where we witnessed the menacing but romantic The Phantom of the Opera. She made me promise that we’ll watch Wicked in case they fly here in Manila. And they have done it, indeed! We were both giddy and restless after Maggie’s friend purchased the tickets for us and sent the electronic confirmation. We’re glad we didn’t miss the chance to book tickets, and this time we decided to really go for the best seats in the house – front row, orchestra center.
I guess I will never outgrow my love for theater, having experienced being on stage and backstage during college. I suddenly remember days of rehearsing for plays for children, thinking of creative ways to interpret poems and short stories and songs, and even providing costume and make up for a play as our final exam for my Theater class. I just cannot resist counting the days until I witness another spell-binding and phenomenal theatrical performance.
Wicked opens on January 22 in the Main Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. For tickets and other information, you can check out their website http://www.wickedthemusical.com.ph/index.html
Photos of the musical were taken from the Wicked website.
I can’t wait Patty!!!
Matulog na tayo para bawas na ng isang araw yung waiting heeeeee :)))
